As a result of the latest changes in the electricity sector, saving on your electricity bill must seem like little more than an odyssey. Although it is true that they do not make it easy for us, there is always room for savings, no matter how little.
Next, we will review the keys that will help you reduce what you pay for your electricity as much as possible. Possible root changes First of all we must go to the root of the problem. Do you know what you have contracted? Is it the best for your needs or are you paying for something you don't need?
It is important that we have the power adjusted to our needs, otherwise we will be paying more. If we reduce contracted kW, even if we continue at the same rate (for example, if you go from 4.6 to 3.45 kW), the same price will be applied to us, but we will multiply it by a lower number of kW.
If the reduction makes us change the rate (say, going from 10.3 kW -2.1A rate- to 9.2 kW -2.0A rate, for less than 10 kW-) to that lower number, we would also have to add the savings of having a lower price by which to multiply it. You can ask your marketer for guidance on what your ideal power may be.
Another change that could bring you savings is to switch to a rate with hourly discrimination. You should ask yourself if it suits you or not according to your way of consuming.
Finally, check your invoice if you are paying for maintenance services or similar. You may never need them (or that when you do need them, they do not cover what happened to you), which is an extra cost that you pay unnecessarily.
Tricks to reduce your consumption once all of the above has been reviewed and although currently, in general, the price we pay for energy consumed is not that high compared to that of power, it is time to look at how to reduce kWh consumed.
Here are 10 useful tricks:
1. Eliminate standby. Use power strips to completely turn off appliances that cannot turn themselves off completely.
2. Adapt the lighting in your home at all times and choose the right light bulb for each area, low consumption if possible.
3. Take advantage of the heat from the oven or the ceramic hob to cook several things at the same time or one after the other and turn them off a little earlier than necessary so that the food finishes cooking with the residual heat.
4. Whenever possible, use short cold wash programs in washing machines and dishwashers.
5. Do not put hot food inside the fridge, you will raise the temperature and prevent other things from cooling properly. When you defrost, do it by passing the food to the fridge instead of leaving it outside, in this way the device takes advantage of the cold it gives off.
6. If you have heating, properly insulate doors and windows to prevent cold or heat from being lost.
7. If you have air conditioning, try not to drop below 25ºC and turn it off about 30 minutes before leaving home. The residual cold will be more than enough and your body will begin to adapt to the outside temperature, avoiding colds.
8. Use gadgets only when you need them. In general, the idea that a device spends more when starting it than leaving it on constantly, although at a lower power (the classic example would be heating) is an urban legend.
9. If your appliances cannot be programmed, you can buy programmers at hardware stores or large specialized stores to control their consumption (for example, in hot water thermos).
10. If you are going to buy a new appliance, bet on the highest possible energy class. It may be a bit of a bigger investment now but you'll quickly pay for it.
In addition to all this, you can check the price that they are applying to you according to your access rate. For the 2.0A and 2.0DHA (up to 10 kW of power with and without time discrimination, respectively), the most competitive rate is the TUR (Last Resort Rate). And remember, if they offer you a discount, ask for all the conditions in writing, study them calmly and take a good look at the fine print.
As you can see, saving energy is not an impossible mission.
